D2 - Production Book Requirements - There will be 2 production books due this semester, one during pre-production and one along with your completed film. The following are the requirements for these books. I have presented them here, so that everyone can get a head-start on all this paperwork, or at least know what's coming.
Further explanation of these requirements, including resources for forms, will be discussed in class, throughout the semester. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns regarding your production books.
I. Pre-Production Book (Due 8 days before equipment check out) - 100pts (10%):
-All notebooks are due in class, the week before a student’s scheduled shooting dates (technically 8 days before). No productions will be approved for principal photography if the requirements below are not met by the scheduled due date, at 12pm in room NSC 183.
-1.5 inch, 3-ring binder with a clear cover. The cover sheet on the front of the notebook must include: Course title, Project name, your producer, your name (director), emails and phone numbers. Example:
Directing II (FIL 4486C.0001) Fall 2013
“Star Trolls 2; First Contact”
Producer: Fred Flintstone
FFlint@mail.com
(407) 823-5555
Director: Barney Rubble
Rubbleinthabronx@mail.com
(407) 823-6661
-Contents of the production notebooks must be 3-hole punched, typed, and neatly organized. The following items should be arranged in the order listed below and indicated with labeled tabs:
- Script - proper format and length
- Locations list AND Maps/Directions (use NSC building as starting location of all directions
- Location agreements, signed
- Shot list and/or story boards (reflecting coverage of the entire script)
- Shooting schedule (covering entire shot list)
- Deal memos signed by all cast + resume (and headshot if possible) of minimum one professional actor in your cast
- Deal memos signed by all crew
- Any and other needed permits (TBD on a case-by-case basis)
-NOTE: As per the UCF General Counsel’s office, you must find your own release and contract forms. UCF cannot officially endorse anything resembling a release or contract for liability reasons.
-I will, however, be providing resources where potential templates for these production forms can be found.
-Notebooks not adhering to these formatting guidelines or missing any required items will result in the student’s shooting dates delayed and points off the final film score. Students will then have another week to fully complete their notebooks and re-submit them. If a student’s shooting dates are rescheduled, I cannot guarantee they will be able to check-out their preferred UCF film equipment.
II. Final Production Book (Due December 4, 2013) - 100pts (10%):
-All notebooks should include everything from the pre-production notebook UPDATED TO REFLECT ACTUAL PRODUCTION. In addition the following items must be added and tabbed where specified:
1. Final cast list w/ contact information (In front of cast deal memos)
2. Final crew list w/ contact information (In front of crew deal memos)
3. All releases not included in the book before - music, photo, etc. (as needed)
4. Production reports for each day of shooting (Tab as the final section)
-This final book must adhere to the same organization and presentation guidelines as the pre-production book.
